Flying Days Sat & Sun 1st & 2nd August
After the weather taking the vote last weekend, the first weekend of August looked to be the perfect gliding day to welcome our visitors from 605 Sqn RAuxAF of RAF Cosford, visiting us for the adventure training phase of their force development weekend.
After breakfast in the WO & Sgts Mess the first briefings were issued - where the nearest brew kit is and the all important Mrs #vulcanbomber lemon drizzle cake. After the Reserves of 605 where familiarised with the ground handling and cockpit of the K21 glider it was time to take to the sunny skies of Shropshire.
Also our MEF students this weekend provided a vital input on the ground with Andrew and Grace helping the duty pilot keep things moving. Really putting into practice the team effort that is required on the airfield.
Richard had also brought grandson Sam along to get his first taste of aviation taking a flight in the TMG. Sam is joining the RAF Air Cadets where we are sure he will follow in his grandfather’s footsteps as a future aviator.
With the weekend’s weather offering strong thermals and a sporty crosswind, conditions found challenging by students, solo pilots managed to view Shawbury from 5200ft.
Other good news for the club this weekend we now are back up to full capability on the ground with our new to us 4×4. speeding up operations of recovering gliders and moving people around the airfield.

26 launches and a whole group of new people introduced to the world of gliding. That is what I would call a successful weekends training!
