Congratulations to Laura, Winner of the RAFGSA Lyne Trophy

Congratulations to Laura, winner of the RAFGSA Lyne Trophy for the best female achievement in the past year.  The Lyne Trophy is awarded by the RAFGSA to the woman pilot who achieves the most in the air during the past year and was presented by Mrs Joy Lyne, wife of Air Vice-Marshal Lyne, a former RAFGSA Vice-President.

Laura started her gliding journey some four and half years ago.  Until then Laura, our club female ambassador, had never flown or been interested in flying, she thought it was so far out of her potential and not something the average female could do. Laura ,said:

“How wrong could I have been, in fact flying it is open to all and everyone is super friendly and, anyway, they say girls are better than the guys!🤩”

Laura’s flying has gone from strength-to-strength, and this past year has been an exceptional year with RAF Shawbury GC.  She has progressed from BI to SFCL FI unrestricted, including the addition of Aerobatics FI too.  Laura has excelled at aerobatics, gaining her Advanced BGA Aerobatic Badge as well as being selected for the World Aerobatic Championships in 2026.

Laura said:

“I have learnt so much.  Even if you just want to have some fun doing it, sharpen your flying skills or go all the way to competitions, aerobatics can fulfil that next step.”

A big well done to Laura
