Expeditions

RSGC members can take advantage of a number of opportunities to fly away from our home airfield and challenge themselves in different environments

Cranwell GC (our sister club) visited Denbigh, north Wales, in October 2021

Service personnel can take part in the RAFGSA’s annual expeditions to the French Alps (“Parcours Combattants”) and Chilean Andes (“Andean Condor”). These expeditions provide a chance to fly in some exceptional scenery and learn the techniques required for flying in mountainous areas, where the ridge and wave lift can easily take you beyond 20,000ft

RSGC also embark on a number of expeditions within the UK each year. These include to local clubs such as Staffordshire Gliding Club at Seighford, near Stafford, and Midland Gliding Club on the Long Mynd, near Church Stretton. We also undertake larger annual expeditions to a UK soaring hotspot such as Snowdonia, where pilots can also experience exciting ridge and mountain soaring conditions
