Flying Report Sat 16 Mar 24

After the excitement of last week’s BBC filming, normal service was resumed with another weather interrupted day, and this despite the presence of The Vicar who arrived early to pray for good weather.  Quite why he was dressed as “Pistol Pete” we have no idea but then he does come from Wales!

Just four launches in the morning, an hour and a half of rain, then five launches in the afternoon before low cloud and more rain brought a halt to proceedings at 14:00

In the intervening period we repaired to the bus (where there was some quite excellent cake to be enjoyed) and whilst some brushed up for their bronze exam and annual checks, others played Solitaire!

With our students away, in the short window available everyone got away.  Whilst Mike O pottered about in 243, eventually firing up the iron thermal at the third attempt, Laura continued her BI training with Ian in KE.  We also welcomed new member Russ Attwood.  Russ is a ½ Cat and a member of the Mighty Tin Shed (Platypus 4b) syndicate.  There was time for Russ to do some ground school with Ian before taking in the views on a site check in R46 with Colin.

The penalty for having none of our students around is that the old lads have to get down to pushing.  Here, young Sargie Hagan takes command of a pushing squad with a combined age of 372 years!

For some it is Annual Checks time, undertaken following a prescribed syllabus and taking two flights to complete.  Geoff C with Will in the back seat took advantage of the afternoon break in the rain to complete one of the two trips.  This view of The Wrekin doesn’t tell the whole story – a turn to starboard ran straight into rain.

Highlight of the day was the departure of the Juno en-route to deliver the match day ball to the centre circle at Crowd Meadow for the 10th Shrewsbury Town FC Armed Forces Day match v Carlisle Town, and where they were expecting a large contingent of the military community.

Fianally, and in response to a social media clip that went viral, we have asked the BBC if Jack Haynes can have a place in Strictly following his demonstration of airborne wing prancing last week😍

When will the weather improve?
