MEF Gliding Bursaries

RAF Shawbury Gliding Club has obtained generous funding from the RAF Central Fund, through the Mechanics’ Endowment Fund (MEF), to provide gliding courses to personnel of any rank attending a Phase 1 or Phase 2 course at RAF Cosford or RAF Shawbury

On the MEF Bursary you will receive:

  • 9 training flights (launch to 2000ft, maximum time 30 minutes)

  • 1 aerobatics experience flight (launch to 4000ft, maximum time 30 minutes)

  • 60 minutes of flying training in a motor glider

  • Simulated gliding lessons on RSGC’s simulator

  • An introduction to glider maintenance including fault rectification, daily checks and annual maintenance

  • A British Gliding Association (BGA) logbook to record your flying

  • A BGA Student Pilot Manual to provide background information to support your training

  • RSGC and RAF Central Fund branded polo shirt

  • Our support to take your gliding even further if you want to!

From you, we need:

  • A commitment to complete the course within three months. This normally takes 3 or 4 attendances. Our flying days are published here

  • £30 to cover your three-month membership (to be paid on your first visit)
