Flying Report Sun 22 Mar 26

A dry and cold day with high level cloud and an inversion sitting over the area did little to dampen enthusiasm and we saw a good turn out from members. But first a blast from the past with the repatriation of the old Wrekin Gliding Club sign.  Well done to Nick and Ian for finding it at RAF Halton and I am sure that we will find it a new home in Hangar 4, although the younger members had never heard of the club!!🤓

It was a busy day with a number of check flights and instructor checks to complete, and two new faces on the airfield.  That we managed with just one tug was an achievement athough when WG was temporarily shut down we thought that it might have been game over for the day.   Luckily it turned out to be a cable snag that was quickly sorted.

A full on day today for Brad who completed his Malcom Club aerobatics bursary.  Taking to the air with Laura in R22, Brad is the first pilot to whom Laura has awarded their BGA SPL basic aerobatics badge.  We wait with bated breath to see the output from his helmet and tail mounted Go-Pros.  Top job you two.😍

So whilst they were taking launches to 4,000ft, closer to the ground the Adlards were going through their Eventualities and landing somewhere else on the airfield.  Older members may recognise the ASK 13 that was R46 and that is now JMJ.

Welcome to new MEF gliding bursary student James.  For Cosford based James it was his first trip in a glider, and he completed 3 flights in the day in the capable hands of instructors Nock and Nigel.

Junior member Jenson continued his flying journey.  As well as flying, Jenson was also learning esential ground handling skills.

We also welcomed Tristan, another new junior member who, like Jenson, has had his Go Gliding Scholarship award transferred from the Mynd to the club.  Hope you enjoyed your first day out with RSGC Tristan. – we think that Mum and Dad did😍

In the cold northerly wind and with the high cloud cover preventing the sun heating the ground there was no lift so ……..

……..for some it was a matter of recency and currency, amongst them, Jack and Colin who brought out their ASK18, our old R43, and in the benign conditions even they were challenged to stay aloft for long.

Elsewhere MEF gliding bursary student Ethan, flying with Colin, continued to explore what the thing called the rudder does………

………and Laura took the launch point bus out for a spin.

Twenty-eight launches and over 8 hours of flying was a great accomplishment and many thanks to all for your hard work today, particularly our tuggies.

New 4×4. We’re looking for a 2nd 4x4 support vehicle.   Jack thinks that a 2CV might just work for us. Proper job Jack and we can see why you joined the Army!

Change of Flying Day. This is our penultimate Sunday flying day.  From 4 Apr 26 we switch to a Saturday schedule for the summer months.
