Conditions were not perfect but we enjoyed a cracking day out with 24 launches and over 9 hours of flying time.

A disappointing end to August with Saturday washed out and Sunday affected by high winds and showers.

A blisteringly hot and dry day at Shawbury.

Having set up to fly it was all too evident that the wind was picking up in strength and we scrubbed after just 2 launches.

After the stifling heat of last weekend, a few degrees cooler and we saw a great turn out from members with the complete fleet taken out to the launch point. 

In this continuing spell of hot weather there was little protection from the sun on a dry and dusty airfield.

Only eight launches achieved before the cross wind was out of limits for the tug.

We gathered today for what was scheduled to be the last opportunity for Brad to practice overhead RAF Shawbury his glider display sequence for the 2026 RAF Cosford Air Show. 

Cracking BH flying, but it was hot!

The rain was never away, but everyone got a trip or two before the front arrived over the airfield and brought an end to flying at 13:50.

A better day’s flying than the forecast had at first suggested.

A great day’s flying in good conditions.

Blue skies and a great day out at Shawbury on which we completed 27 flights with nearly 15 hours of flying time.

Easter Monday was only the second day in 2026 when we have enjoyed a full flying programme.

A day of two halves.  In the first half we went flying.  At half time it started to rain!

The club are delighted that the RAFCF have provided funding for the MEF gliding bursary programme for 2026 and 2027.

A dry and cold day with high level cloud and an inversion sitting over the area did little to dampen enthusiasm.
