Blue skies and a great day out at Shawbury on which we completed 27 flights with nearly 15 hours of flying time.

Easter Monday was only the second day in 2026 when we have enjoyed a full flying programme.

A day of two halves.  In the first half we went flying.  At half time it started to rain!

The club are delighted that the RAFCF have provided funding for the MEF gliding bursary programme for 2026 and 2027.

A dry and cold day with high level cloud and an inversion sitting over the area did little to dampen enthusiasm.

Despite our best endeavours to get the two K21s and a tug out to the launch point before a front arrived, we were thwarted by the increasing wind speed.  With gusts in excess of 30kts we scrubbed. But the day was not wasted.

With conditions grey and overcast, a sporty wind and rain never far way it was a credit that we got everyone at least one trip

Recent changes to Part‑SFCL and the British Gliding Association (BGA) syllabi have increased requirements for instructor recency, competency, and delivery skills. These changes necessitate a structured approach to professional development to ensure that instructors remain fully compliant and operationally current.

A cracking day out at Shawbury.

The last flying day in January and pleased to report that the weather gods were with us at last.

Subject to weather conditions our first day of flying off the new runway surfaces at RAF Shawbury is confirmed as Sun 11 Jan 26.

It was with a sense of huge anticipation that we approached our last day of operations off the grass at RAF Shawbury. 

After the challenges of 2025 we look forward to the end of ops from the grass and our planned first day of flying on the resufaced runways on Sun 11 Jan 26. 

We wish you a happy New Year and look forward to seeing you on the airfield in 2026.

After one launch of the K21 it was evident that the rolling resistance of the grass was too great and we abandoned any further attempt to launch a glider.

After a run on non-flying days it was delight that we got into the air, albeit with only a short flying window.

With cloud base hovering c600-800ft and an endless procession of showers, it was another flying day lost at Shawbury so we put our back into maintenance.
