Flying Report Sat 4 July 26. Independence Day (Not!)
A disappointing day on two fronts. Firstly, although it’s someone’s Independence Day, we couldn’t think of anyone from whom we gained independence unless you count Cnut the Great (1016-1035) but that’s a bit of a stretch! Unfortunately, it seems we’re who everyone else celebrates their independence from!🤣🤣
Second, we only achieved eight launches before the cross wind was out of limits for the tug. Knowing that the wind was likely to pick up we gave the priority to our MEF gliding bursary students and managed to fly four out of the five who attended today. Sadly Matthew, who was siting in the cockpit waiting to launch didn’t get to fly.
Hog of the day went to Lewis. Flying with Geoff Matthews they managed to get stuck into some thermals and enjoyed a trip of over an hour. Top job Lewis
With flying scrubbed it was back to Hangar 4.
Part of the MEF programme includes involvement in day-to-day maintenance tasks on both powered and non-powered aircraft, supervised by Part 66 Licenced Aircraft Engineers. Today it was a lesson in derigging a glider supervised by Colin.
Thanks to all our young aviators who got stuck in today.
By 1530 everyone was away and Jack, recently returned from a spell in Estonia watching Russians over the border, was delighted as he had tickets this evening for a Turner Tina tribute concert in the Bongo’s Bingo club in downtown Wolves.
