Flying Report Sat 9 May 26. Thanks to the Just-in-Time Repair Team
Whilst current and ex-club members are filling their boots in the Southern French Alps……
……those of us left behind are carrying on with the graft😎. So it’s a big well done to the mid-week team that fitted the new engine to KE. Subject to completion of some minor outstanding issues, KE should be available from Sat 16 May 26. Top Job team.
Congratulations to junior member Ben who has been awarded a £250 bursary by the Caroline Trust. Ben has done some sterling work for the club whilst completing his Duke of Edinburgh’s Award assignment and today he brought cake made by his own fair hand as a rehearsal for a school project. Thanks Ben.
The forecast did not bode well with even the best suggesting that we might get to lunch time before the rain descended. As it was a high-pressure system kept the rain at bay until around 1600 when we stopped flying.
R35 was back online after its annual maintenance period and for its test flight we sent it off with Nigel in the front seat and The Vicar with his Bible riding shotgun just in case there was a need for those eventual eventualities.
We could see the front approaching…..
……and so decided to give everybody a single flight and fit in more if the rain held off or we could dodge the showers. Welcome to new MEF gliding scholarship member Tom – it’ s a bit of a change from karting and hope you enjoy the gliding just as much.
Instructor development continues with Colin getting in instructor checks with Alan.
Jack is getting in some back seat tuition and practicing his patter as he works toward his IFP (Introductory Flight Pilot) rating. Good to see our youngsters coming up through the system.
An interruption to flying caused by a tow rope snafu was quickly fixed by our JIT Repair Team – all three of them but only one knew what he was doing!!
High pressure to the south ensured the front was slow moving and for a long period it held steady over the airfield. Whilst viz was not great, on the leading edge of the front there was some fantastic lift. It must have been good for R66 (AKA The Concrete Swan) to be brought on to the launch point and Will, Brad LK, Geoff C and JP all getting in decent trips.
Elsewhere two of our other our junior members Jenson and Robin are making good progress with their flying.
As is Robin’s Dad Jed, here flying with Will.
But not such great news for the Ventus 2CT where the engine misfire continues to be an issue……
…..so they sent Nick up in it. We think they’re setting him up to buy a share (but he doesn’t know that!).
On the penultimate flight of the day Brad kept our attention as he practiced his aeros display routine. Lovely to watch Brad.
The showers eventually brought an end to flying at 1600 after a better day’s flying that we had envisaged, with 21 launches and over 9 1/2 hours of flying time.
