Late May BH Flying 23/25 May 26 SCORCIO!
If you flew on the Saturday over the BH weekend, then you definitely enjoyed the better of the conditions……
…..Monday was so hot that with the tug oil temperature on the red line we limited aerotows to 2,000ft, and even then it struggled in the oppressive heat.
With the temperatures so high, watermelon and ice pops were on the menu and much welcomed😋😋
The BGA requires those pilots carrying out introductory flying where the passenger pays for the flight to hold a BGA Introductory Flight Pilot (IFP) endorsement. So, it is congratulations to John Luke who completed his IFP training with Simon and is looking forward to his first visitor. Well done indeed.
Welcome to Cosford based MEF gliding bursary students Grace and Jake who joined us for the first time and took their first flights.
While we were grafting away at Shawbury, British Glider Aerobatics Team member Laura was at Buckminster GC competing in the Saltby Open Aerobatic Competition in a SZD59. Partner Chris was also competing and The Vicar, with his British Aerobatic Team manager’s hat on was assisting the comp organisers. Congratulations to Chris who came 2nd in the Sports Class.
The DuoDiscus, now rigged after returning from Sisteron, had a couple of outings, including a trip by a pair of our RAF Myndbury club members. Lovely to see you chaps.
Simon’s ASK13 JMJ saw plenty of use with spin training for Myndie visitor Sophie ……
……and Brad doing some back seat driving working toward his FI(S). He successfully completed the Part 1 assessment today. Top job Brad.😍
Saturday saw well marked thermals providing plenty of opportunity to shake of the soaring cobwebs
By contrast the Monday flyers encountered more challenging conditions on a blue sky thermal day in oppressive heat. If you bumped into one, the thermals were tight and really didn’t get going until around 14:00.
A rare sight, the Tin Shed sneaked out of Hangar 4 so that aerobatisist Laura could keep us entertained with her overhead display. Brad later borrowed the Tin Shed to strut his stuff on the last launch of the day.
The Tin Shed with optional rear mounted tail brake!
Lastly, it was a delight to see KE back in the air and:
Not piloted by Colin and
Not trailing black smoke!🤣🤣🤣
Well done team.
Cracking Bank Holiday and thanks to all for your hard work in the testing conditions
