Flying Report Sunday 27 Jul 25

By our guest Millenial blogger.

Alright, fam, let's get this glow-up going on that boomer text. Here's the tea:

So, our last Sunday fly sesh in July was kinda dead, TBH. A bunch of our core MEF gliding bursary students were on vacay, and club members were also out living their best lives. Plus, it was a super slow start because the tug plane was stuck at Seighford, waiting for the rain to chill before it could fly back to Shawbury. Big shoutout to Nick for handling that!

While we were just vibin' at the launch point, there was literally nothing better to do than watch the Shawbury hares doing their thing!

Huge welcome to our new club member, Martin, aka "Topsy"! He came to scope us out a few weeks back and decided it was worth the send, so he yeeted himself into joining today. Martin's a power pilot, so, like totally rudderless (😂), but he still took the first flight of the day with Nigel riding shotgun in R35!

ou can probably peep that flight here:

Next up was Paul. He had this Discover Gliding Voucher from Christmas 2023, and he'd tried to fly with us five times already, but the weather kept ghosting him. So, it was lucky number six, and since there was a delay, we decided to flex and give Paul a 3,000ft launch.

With Ian in the back, and after a pretty sus launch.….

...they legit popped over to Hadnall to wave at Paul's squad.

So good to see you, Paul, and glad you had a lit trip!

It was a super overcast day, with only a little bit of thermic activity, so no one really got away – just one of those days, you know?

Finally, big welcome to our new MEF gliding bursary student, Alfie! Earlier in July, Alfie showed up for a birthday special with Brad and somehow managed to finesse his way into 3 hours and 16 minutes of soaring without dropping a single penny!! Needless to say, he was like, "I need that MEF bursary!" Good to see you on the airfield today, Alfie, and thanks for being a real one with all your help.

Rain was lurking, so we decided to pack it up while Ian and Land-Out took a joyride in WG to check out the petal fields near Newport – apparently, it was a stunning display!

Top job Petal!🤣
