Flying Report Sat 4 Jun 22

Nothing today to match the challenges and excitement of Thursday last and with no land-outs to get the adrenaline running it was a pretty ordinary, dull and overcast day at Shawbury.  Even the hares seemed indifferent to our presence.

We then got a message that the Caravan was up and about; eyes scanned the horizon, might we see our Thursday visitor landing at the wrong airfield – surely they couldn’t make the same mistake again?.  Thankfully the only caravan we saw was ours.

With our trainees away for the Jubilee break just enough of us to make flying possible gathered on the airfield, including one instructor and one tuggy.  Our two pilots in training could take all the trips they liked.  Sophie is very near to re-soloing after her break and might just have got there had it not been such a turbulent day.  Let’s hope that the weather is a bit kinder next time.

It was a delight to welcome new member Pip from Cosford who is flying on the MEF programme.  Pip went solo aged 14 and, amongst other aircraft has flown both a K8 and a K18.  After a break of 5 years or so Pip has decided to return to the gliding challenge.  Despite getting bored to death with all the war stories from the old boys we trust that you enjoyed the day Pip and that we will see you on the next flying day.

Eventually rain intervened, albeit light, and at 1500 we called it a day.  With the Cosford air show next w’end, where Ian Gallacher will be displaying the K21, there’s now a break in the flying programme which resumes on Sat 18 Jun 22.
