Flying Report Sun 14 Dec 25
After a run of non-flying days it was delight that we got into the air, albeit with only a short flying window. Lesson learned? We should have started an hour earlier, particularly as there was Wave everywhere.
We took a punt that after two days without rain and high winds, the ground at Shawbury would have dried out sufficiently to enable us to launch and so it proved although the length of the grass does make a long take off run.
With just sufficient members we took out R35 and a single seater and set up to fly off r’way 18 (grass). After the normal proof of concept launches, first away was our latest MEF gliding bursary student Emelia.
New to gliding Cosford based Emilia managed to get in two trips, in between each of which we launched John Luke in EEO. Taking a high launch, Geoff M in the tug dropped him off in Wave overhead Shrewsbury and John took hog of the day with a trip of 1hr 20 mins that mainly tracked up and down the A5 twixt Telford and Shrewsbury. Top job.
After her second flight Emelia landed at 1200 and that was our day done, with the wind picking up and forecast to get stronger – out of limits for the tug. What would we give to be winch launching!
But look on the bright side, we did get airborne and there was plentiful cake with VMT to Mrs #vulcanbomber – we do all love a slice of delicious Lemon Drizzle!
