Aerobatics update. Laura is away in Fayence, France representing GB at the 2026 FAI World Glider Aerobatic Championships (WGAC). The Vicar is there as Team Manager hoping that a wing and a prayer will help! It’s a championship that attracts the “crème de la crème” of the Glider Aerobatic Pilots and following a training and familiarisation period, the competition started on Thursday and ends on 11 Sep 26. Meanwhile our other aeros hero has been seen strutting his stuff on the film set.

Work continues to get KE airborne. Its last revenue earning flight was 28 Sep 25 and other than its aborted test flight on 2 Feb 26 courtesy of the Haynes gang……

…… it’s been sat in Hangar 4 as Nigella and gang try to get it airworthy. We really could do with the second tug as with grants from the RAF Charitable Fund, the MEF gliding bursary programme, our club priority, goes from strength-to-strength. We currently have a waiting list of 27 personnel from RAF Cosford and RAF Shawbury and unfortunately that limits the number of other people who we can accommodate.

A busy day at Shawbury with a number of members returning from holiday or overseas ventures. In terms of the weather, we spent the morning dodging the showers…...

The afternoon pilots fared better but you had to get lucky to find the lift which Will did in the DuoDiscus (R2) and claimed hog-of-the-day. It was nice to see the CFI on the airfield, back after a spell away moonlighting on the continent.

Super keen MEF students, so keen that one turned up at Hangar 4 yesterday, but we won’t mention any names Grace! Lewis’s flying is really coming along. He started on the MEF programme and is now on the RAFGSA Go-Solo scheme. After a check flight with Geoff he took a further 3 solo trips. Top job Lewis.

We’re delighted to see young Air Cadets fly with us. Robin, an Air Cadet who has ambitions to become an RAF pilot, has already impressed RAF Shawbury instructors with knowledge gained at 639 Aerospace Ground School which is based at nearby Tern Hill. His flying is progressing very well, and we can see him solo in the not-too-distant future.

Robin’s Dad Ged has deep pockets not only paying for Robin’s flying but also for a launch to 4,000ft with Will. Get in there Ged🤣🤣

Welcome to Air Cadet Emanuelle from 610 Sqn City of Chester who also joined us today for a first flight.

The DuoDiscus R2 was up for much of the day. Ian finished off his annual checks with Simon…….

……then Alan took Callum for his first trip in the Duo.

But R2 was largely hogged by hog-of-the-day Will, who had escaped from nappy changing duties, first flying with Gromit as ballast in the back seat and then, in better conditions, flying solo.

Elsewhere, James continued his training flying with Simon……

……and after the most fantastic “dog (bird??) fight” Mr Pidgeon sought refuge under the bus having escaped the clutches of Mrs Sparrowhawk😮

The feathers were also ruffled in Team Adlard who had been running the show this weekend. They took the last flight of the day but getting in for the old lad proved a tad difficult…..

…..anyway, after a bit of a row about who had the pound for the shopping trolley they swapped seats and pottered off only, to fall out of the sky some 20 minutes later.
