Flying Report August BH Weekend

A disappointing end to August with Saturday washed out and Sunday affected by high winds and showers.  The BH was also low on attendance with members and many gliding bursary students away on holidays.

With a pause for rain and dodging the showers we managed just 15 flights on Sunday.  RAF Myndbury’s Team Adlard were in charge (sic!) and even managed to fit in another trip together in which to discuss the shopping list.

The highlight of the day was Army Will who managed to complete both his SPL skills test with Simon and then went on to complete his SPL Navex test in WG with Alan, on the last flight of the day.  Top job Will.

Every now and then a break in the overcast conditions looked tempting but in reality any thermals were weak, tight and quickly blown out.

Junior member Ben took a trip with Alan.  Given Ben’s progress to date, it was not really a day that had much training value and, quite sensibly, he declined another trip.

It was the same for new member James on his second flying day with the club.  The blustery conditions made for challenging aero-tows part of which might take you round a shower or two!

Two of our Cosford based Go-Solo students returned early from break.  Matthew is at an early stage of his training……

……whilst Lewis, our 1st soloist from last weekend flew first with Alan and then with Geoff M and although his flying is very good, sadly conditions were not right today to fly a solo trip.

Just 15 launches over the weekend and 5 hours of flying time.  A disappointing end to August.
